Kenji comes from the Rukongai, which shaped his strong, courageous personality. He was found by a woman who had already given birth in the Rukongai, and she raised her baby girl as well as Kenji. He joined the academy, determined to become a captain someday. But, he later regretted leaving behind his 'family.'
Kenji was placed in the 6th squad, and has a strong dislike for Captain Byakuya. He's tried to be friendly with Renji, teasing about their names but his warm personality wasnt returned quickly in his squad.
